Dragon Stone Chamber

Ancient ruins puzzle dungeon in the Hernand Highlands

The Dragon's Stone Chamber is an ancient ruins puzzle dungeon hidden within a deep chasm in the Hernand Highlands. The entrance features an ornate painted door set into the cliff face, decorated with a prominent dragon motif and flanked by faded murals depicting historical combat scenes. Inside, a massive stone dragon statue dominates the far wall, while three rotatable stone dials sit in a central pit below. Players must decipher wall murals, travel to real-world map locations to find clue symbols, and rotate the three dials to their precise positions to unlock the hidden chamber and claim valuable rewards.

Location

Located near the Greymane Camp on Howling Hill, in the Hernand Highlands. The chamber is carved into the cliff face near Thinker's Meadow, in the Serkis Estate area south of Anvil Hill. It is southeast of the Greymane Camp, close to the player housing and a hidden fast travel point. Look for a curious-looking wall carved along the cliff face — you can glide toward it from the top of the hill.

Prerequisites

1. You must have reached Chapter 3 of the main story. 2. You must have established the Greymane Camp. 3. You must have the Blinding Light (Blinding Flash) skill available — this is required to burn the foliage blocking the entrance door. 4. You need a sword equipped to use the Blinding Light skill. 5. A lantern is needed to reveal hidden shadowy outlines near the entrance.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1

Find the Entrance

Head southeast from Greymane Camp on Howling Hill. Walk along the top of the hill and look for a curious-looking carved wall on the cliff face. Glide toward it — your lantern will glow as you approach.

2

Reveal the Memory

Bring out your lantern and look for shadowy outlines of soldiers near the entrance. This unlocks a memory that you can play when you equip the Visione.

3

Burn the Foliage

Use the Blinding Light skill to burn the foliage blocking the door. Equip your sword, then on PC hold Ctrl + Left Mouse Button to enter the stance, release Ctrl, and hold it again to focus the light. On controller, hold RB + LB, then release RB and hold it again. Aim the concentrated light at the foliage to ignite it.

4

Open the Stone Door

Stand in front of the central wall and push it for several seconds. The heavy stone door will slowly slide open to reveal the secret chamber inside.

5

Study the Wall Murals

Inside the chamber, examine the maps painted on the cracked walls. These murals are topographic guides showing a bird's-eye view of Anvil Hill. Three red marks on the maps correspond to real-world cliff face locations where the dial clue symbols are carved. The large building depicted in the mural corresponds to Halssius's House of Healing.

6

Find the Clue Symbols (Optional)

Travel to the three marked cliff face locations at Anvil Hill, west and northwest of the House of Healing. At each location, you will find drawings carved into the rock that show the correct orientation for each dial. This step is optional if you already know the correct dial positions.

7

Solve the Three Dials

Leap down into the pit in the center of the chamber. Rotate each of the three stone dials to the correct position. See the Puzzles section below for exact dial positions. The orientations must be pixel-perfect — listen for a click sound when you nudge a dial, but verify visually that the angle is correct.

8

Claim Your Rewards

Once all three dials are correctly positioned, the door underneath the dragon statue will open. Enter the hidden chamber to collect the Abyss Cresset, Abyss Artifact, and Memories of Abundance. Use the Memories of Abundance immediately from your inventory to reveal seven hidden locations across Hernand on your map.

Puzzles

First Dial — Sun and Moon (Left Wheel)

Rotate the dial so that the sun and moon symbol is pointing straight upward at the top, with the tree roots at the bottom. This is the most straightforward dial — simply align it upright.

Second Dial — U-Shaped Pattern (Middle Wheel)

Rotate the dial so that the U-shaped design is pointing to the left, at approximately the 10 o'clock position if the dial were a clock face. The 'hand' of the gear should be on the left side of the disc. This is the trickiest dial — if the door doesn't open after setting all three, this is likely the one that needs a slight nudge.

Third Dial — Tiger Head / X-Shape (Right Wheel)

Rotate the dial so that the X-shaped design is in the top right of the dial, at approximately the 1 o'clock position. Alternatively, look for the tiger head pattern on the right side — it should be looking slightly down and to the left, not perfectly horizontal.

Rewards

Abyss Cresset

Unlocks a fast travel point inside the Dragon's Stone Chamber, providing a convenient shortcut back to the Greymane Camp area.

Abyss Artifact

Grants an additional skill point that can be spent on abilities. These are rare and valuable resources with a limited number available in the game.

Memories of Abundance

A consumable item imbued with memories of hidden locations across Hernand. When used from your inventory, it reveals seven different points of interest on your map, including caves, treasure spots, and other secrets throughout the Hernand Highlands region. Use it immediately after obtaining it for a massive exploration boost.

Tips

  • The dial orientations must be pixel-perfect. Even a tiny misalignment will prevent the door from opening.
  • You will hear a click sound when nudging a dial, but this only means it moved by one increment — it does not confirm the correct position.
  • If the door doesn't open after setting all three dials, the middle dial (U-shaped pattern) is most likely the one that needs adjustment. Nudge it slightly.
  • Finding the clue locations at Anvil Hill is optional. If you already know the correct positions, you can solve the puzzle immediately without traveling there.
  • The large building shown in the wall murals corresponds to Halssius's House of Healing — use this as your reference point to find the cliff face clues.
  • Use the Memories of Abundance immediately after obtaining it. It reveals seven hidden locations that significantly help with exploration.
  • This puzzle cannot be brute-forced due to the precision required. Use visual guides if you are struggling with the exact orientations.
  • Make sure you have the Blinding Light skill and a sword equipped before attempting to reach the entrance, or you won't be able to burn the foliage blocking the door.

Frequently Asked Questions

I set all three dials but the door won't open. What's wrong?
The most common issue is that one or more dials are very slightly off. The puzzle requires pixel-perfect precision. The middle dial (U-shaped pattern) is the most common culprit. Try nudging each dial by a tiny amount and check if the door opens. Also ensure you're looking at the correct reference images, as the orientations are difficult to describe in text alone.
I can't burn the foliage at the entrance. How do I use Blinding Light?
Make sure you have a sword equipped. On PC, hold Ctrl + Left Mouse Button to enter the stance, then release Ctrl and hold it again to focus the light on your blade. On controller, hold RB + LB, then release RB and hold it again. Aim the concentrated sparks at the foliage. If the skill is not available, you may need to progress further in the story or unlock it in your skill tree.
Where exactly are the clue locations at Anvil Hill?
The three clue locations are on cliff faces at Anvil Hill, west and northwest of the House of Healing. Look at the wall murals inside the chamber — they show a topographic bird's-eye view of the area with three red marks. The large round building in the mural is Halssius's House of Healing. Use it as your landmark to find the three cliff faces where the dial symbols are carved.
Can I access the Dragon's Stone Chamber before Chapter 3?
No. The Dragon's Stone Chamber becomes accessible only after reaching Chapter 3 and establishing the Greymane Camp. You also need the Blinding Light skill to clear the entrance, which may not be available earlier in the game.
What should I do with the Memories of Abundance reward?
Use it immediately from your inventory. It is a consumable item that, when activated, reveals seven hidden points of interest across the Hernand Highlands on your map. These include caves, treasure locations, and other secrets. There is no benefit to saving it for later.
Is it possible to brute force this puzzle?
Not practically. The dials require pixel-perfect alignment, meaning there are far too many possible combinations to try randomly. It is much more efficient to either find the clue symbols at Anvil Hill or follow a visual guide with the exact dial positions.
