Fast Travel Guide
All 107+ Abyss Nexus, Cresset, and Sky Island locations across Pywel
Fast travel in Crimson Desert is entirely discovery-based. There are no pre-unlocked waypoints — every location must be found and manually activated before it becomes usable. Two types of fast travel points exist across the continent of Pywel: Abyss Nexuses (47 total) and Abyss Cressets (60 total, also called Secret Places). Once activated, players can open the map, hover over the blue fast travel icon, and double-click (or press Y on controller) to instantly teleport to that location.
How to Unlock Fast Travel
Fast travel points are hidden across Pywel and indicated on the map by white question mark (?) search areas called 'Mysterious Energy' zones. Not all question marks lead to fast travel — some contain other Exploration Challenges. To reveal hidden fast travel points, use Kliff's Blinding Flash ability (hold lantern + normal attack) from a high vantage point to spot glimmering objects in the area. You can also use the sword's Guiding Light (L1+R1 / LB+RB / Ctrl+Left Click) to highlight nearby Nexuses with a blue glow. Additionally, ringing the 8 Bells across Pywel (part of the 'Toll of Pywel' questline) will unfog large map regions and reveal points of interest including fast travel markers.
Fast Travel Systems
Abyss Nexus
47 totalAbyss Nexuses are stone altar-like circular floor plates scattered across Pywel. They activate instantly when you step on them — simply stand in the center of the circle until it glows blue. There are 47 Abyss Nexuses in total. They require no puzzles or special abilities to activate, making them the simpler type of fast travel point.
Abyss Cresset
60 totalAbyss Cressets are environmental puzzle locations tied to ancient ruins, also called Secret Places. Approach one and a small pillar shows a 'Take' prompt. Some cressets hand over the Abyss Artifact immediately; others gate it behind a nearby puzzle that must be solved first. Each activated cresset grants both a permanent fast travel waypoint and an Abyss Artifact (skill point) that can be spent on new skills or used to upgrade gear. There are 60 Abyss Cressets in total. Finding all of them unlocks the 'Pilgrim of Wonders' trophy/achievement.

The Abyss - Sky Island Fast Travel
The Abyss is a realm of floating islands high in the sky. Each island is a puzzle area tied to Abyss Restoration challenges. There are 40 Abyss Restoration challenges total, each unlocking a fast travel point on the sky islands. Players can then skydive down to surrounding areas. Only Kliff can access Abyss-based fast travel points — Damiane cannot use them.
Exploration Mechanics
Mysterious Energy
Mysterious Energy zones appear as white question mark (?) markers on your map. They indicate a potential Abyss Nexus, Abyss Cresset, or other Exploration Challenge nearby. Entering the area reveals a hidden structure or interaction point. Not all Mysterious Energy zones contain fast travel points — some lead to Sealed Abyss Artifacts, Secret Places, or Ancient Ruins puzzles.
Blinding Flash
Blinding Flash is Kliff's core exploration ability. Activate it by pressing and holding the lantern and normal attack buttons simultaneously. When used from a high vantage point, it reveals points of interest as glints of light in the surrounding area, helping locate hidden Abyss Nexuses and Cressets.
Guiding Light
The sword's Guiding Light ability highlights nearby Abyss Nexuses with a blue glow when they are within line of sight. Useful for pinpointing exact locations once you are already in a Mysterious Energy zone.
Bells of Pywel
Part of the 'Toll of Pywel' questline. There are 8 bells spread across the continent. Ringing each one clears fog across its surrounding region and exposes points of interest, including fast travel markers. It is highly recommended to ring all 8 bells first to fully unfog the map before hunting for fast travel points.
Tips
- Ring all 8 Bells of Pywel first to unfog the entire map. On the way to each bell, activate any fast travel points you pass — this gives you full map visibility and a good network of teleporters.
- Fast travel icons only appear under the 'All' or 'Environment' map tabs. If your fast travel points have disappeared, check that you are not viewing the Quest or Faction tab.
- You cannot fast travel while mounted — dismount your horse first. You also cannot teleport during combat, while sprinting, climbing, or falling.
- Use Blinding Flash from high vantage points to reveal hidden fast travel markers in Mysterious Energy zones. Not every glimmering spot is a fast travel point — some are Sealed Abyss Artifacts or puzzle activities.
- The Howling Hill / Greymane Camp Abyss Nexus is broken when first discovered. To repair it, you need to have completed Act 5 of the story, obtained the Focus Palm Force skill, and have the Kuku Pot item.
- Abyss Cressets are more valuable than Nexuses because they give both a fast travel point AND an Abyss Artifact (skill point) for upgrading skills or gear.
- Several Cresset puzzles require story-gated abilities: Force Palm (end of Chapter 1), Nature's Grasp and Focus (Chapter 2), and Stab (mid-Chapter 3). If you cannot interact with a puzzle, you likely need to progress the story further.
- Four locations near Hernand are worth unlocking early: the Nexus southwest of Three Saints' Falls, the Karin Quarry Nexus, the Meandering Hills Cresset (Chapter 2 quest), and the 'A Hill Guided By Light' Cresset north of Bloomwood Ranch (no puzzle required).
- Sky island fast travel points from the 40 Abyss Restoration challenges let you skydive down to surrounding ground areas — useful for reaching remote locations.
- The Day 1 patch relocated many fast travel points, so pre-release guides may show inaccurate positions. Use guides updated after the official launch.
- If you see a red 'Cannot teleport in current state' message, leave combat, stop all movement, and stand still before attempting fast travel again.
Fast Travel Strategy
Building a comprehensive fast travel network is one of the most impactful things you can do early in Crimson Desert. Ring all 8 Bells of Pywel first to unfog the map, activating fast travel points along the way. Prioritize Abyss Cressets over Nexuses when possible — they reward both a fast travel point AND an Abyss Artifact (skill point). Use Blinding Flash from high vantage points and Guiding Light to locate hidden points in Mysterious Energy zones.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why can't I see my fast travel points on the map?
- Fast travel icons only appear under the 'All' or 'Environment' map filter tabs. If you are viewing the Quest or Faction tab, fast travel points will be hidden. Also make sure you are not zoomed out too far on the map.
- Why can't I fast travel?
- You cannot fast travel while mounted (dismount first), during combat, while sprinting, climbing, or falling. If you see 'Cannot teleport in current state', stop all actions and stand still, then try again.
- How do I fix the broken Greymane Camp / Howling Hill fast travel point?
- You need to have completed up to Act 5 in the story, acquired the Focus Palm Force skill, and obtained the Kuku Pot item. Only then can you repair the broken Abyss Nexus at your camp on Howling Hill.
- What is the difference between Abyss Nexus and Abyss Cresset?
- Abyss Nexuses are simple circular floor plates that activate by stepping on them. Abyss Cressets are puzzle-based locations in ancient ruins that require solving a puzzle or reaching a hard-to-access spot. Cressets additionally reward an Abyss Artifact (skill point) upon activation.
- Can Damiane use fast travel?
- Damiane can use regular Abyss Nexus and Abyss Cresset fast travel points on the ground. However, Abyss-based sky island fast travel points are exclusive to Kliff — Damiane cannot access them.
- I can't solve an Abyss Cresset puzzle. What should I do?
- Several Cresset puzzles require abilities unlocked through story progression: Force Palm (end of Chapter 1), Nature's Grasp and Focus (Chapter 2), and Stab (mid-Chapter 3). If you cannot interact with a puzzle, continue the main story to unlock the required ability, then return later.
