Ancient Ruins Puzzles
Complete guide to all 37 environmental puzzles
Ancient Ruins are environmental puzzles scattered across the world of Crimson Desert. There are 37 in total, each guarding an Abyss Cresset that serves as both a fast travel point and a source of Abyss Artifacts. These puzzles come in several varieties: statue rotation, symbol matching, mural deciphering, tile path puzzles, and maze challenges. Solving them is entirely optional but highly recommended as Abyss Artifacts are essential for character progression.
Locations
Various locations across Pywel — Hernand, Witchwoods, Everfrost, and more.
Prerequisites
Most require Force Palm. Some also need Nature's Grasp, Blinding Flash, or Focused Force Palm. Additional ruins unlock as you progress the main story and explore new regions.
Puzzle Types Guide
Statue Rotation Puzzles
The most common type. You need to rotate stone statues or pillars to face a specific direction or match a pattern. Look for clues on nearby walls or the ground. Use Force Palm to rotate the mechanisms.
Symbol Matching Puzzles
Move devices or panels to match symbols shown on nearby walls. Some panels are interconnected — moving one affects adjacent ones. Use Force Palm to interact with the panels. The key is finding the reference pattern first.
Mural / Clue Puzzles
These require examining murals or inscriptions in the surrounding area before you can solve the main puzzle. Take note of the images and symbols — they indicate the correct sequence or placement for the puzzle elements.
Tile Path Puzzles
Walk across lit tiles following a specific path to connect energy symbols. Be extremely careful with your steps — walking an extra step takes you out of the zone and resets the entire puzzle. Plan your route before starting.
Maze Challenges
There are 4 maze challenges total. Navigate through labyrinthine passages collecting Engraved Stones, then place them at the exit. Use Nature's Grasp to lift walls and Force Palm to reveal hidden passages.
Disc / Circuit Puzzles
Found during the Reunion quest (main story). Using Force Palm on one disc inverts adjacent discs. You need all discs pressed into the wall simultaneously to complete the energy circuit. Think of it like a lights-out puzzle.
Rewards
Abyss Cresset
Each solved ruin activates a nearby Abyss Cresset, turning the location into a fast travel point.
Abyss Artifact
Every Abyss Cresset grants one Abyss Artifact, used to unlock skills and strengthen equipment.
37 Total Artifacts
Completing all 37 Ancient Ruins puzzles provides a significant boost to your character's power.
Tips
- Always look around the puzzle area before interacting — clues are often on nearby walls, floors, or pillars.

- Some ruins only become accessible after progressing the main story or completing faction quests.

- The tile path puzzles are the most frustrating — plan your entire route mentally before stepping on the first tile.
