Crimson Desert's Private Storage chest was not available at launch — it was added in patch 1.00.03 on March 23, 2026 (three days after release). The chest is located at the Greymane Camp in Howling Hill and unlocks after completing Chapter 3. It provides 240 slots of persistent storage, with consumables stacking up to 50 units per slot. Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1

Progress Through Chapter 3

The Private Storage chest unlocks after completing the main quest 'Greymanes Reunited' in Chapter 3. Before this, a temporary supply chest is available inside Kliff's tent at the Royal Trading Post in Hernand.

2

Go to Howling Hill — Greymane Camp

Travel to Kliff's base camp at Howling Hill. The storage chest is located just behind Carl (the Provisions Keeper / Provisioner NPC). Look for the chest near the camp's central supply area.

3

Interact with the Chest

Walk up to the storage chest and press the interact button. This opens a split inventory screen showing your personal inventory on one side and the chest's storage slots on the other.

4

Transfer Items

Drag items between your inventory and the chest, or use the transfer shortcuts. You can move weapons, armor, materials, consumables, and most other items. The chest holds 240 slots total.

5

Retrieve Items When Needed

Return to the chest at any time to retrieve stored items. Note that stored items are only accessible from this specific chest — they cannot be accessed remotely from the field.

Supply Chest vs Private Storage

Do not confuse the Supply Chest with Private Storage. Supply Chests are automatic item boxes for loot you missed during quests and exploration — the game sends notifications when items appear there. Private Storage (the chest behind Carl) is the manual storage system where you actively deposit items. The game also uses the Private Storage chest to hold goods from stronghold liberation activities and Greymane dispatch missions.

Tips

  • Always store weapons and armor obtained from bosses — they cannot be obtained again if discarded, and the chest keeps them safe permanently.
  • Consumables stack up to 50 units per slot, so storing food and crafting materials is very space-efficient.
  • Keep upgrade materials, frequently used food, and active weapons/armor in your personal inventory for quick access in the field.
  • Before the Private Storage patch, players used a 'sleep exploit' by dropping items then sleeping to transfer them to the supply chest. This is no longer necessary.
  • Complete faction side quests and purchase Small Bags (50 Copper each from merchants) to expand your personal inventory slots alongside using the chest.
  • Unlocking additional playable characters also grants extra personal inventory slots.
  • Future housing updates are confirmed to add more storage options, though no release date has been set.

About the Storage Chest

The Private Storage chest in Crimson Desert is the main long-term storage system, providing 240 slots of persistent item storage at the Greymane Camp in Howling Hill. It was added in patch 1.00.03 and unlocks after completing Chapter 3. Consumables stack up to 50 per slot, making it highly space-efficient for food and crafting materials. Unlike the Supply Chest — which automatically receives loot you missed — Private Storage requires you to manually deposit and withdraw items. You must physically visit the chest to access it; there is no remote storage mechanic.

Frequently Asked Questions

When was the storage chest added to the game?
The Private Storage chest was added in patch 1.00.03, released on March 23, 2026 — three days after the game's initial launch. It was not available at day one.
How many items can the storage chest hold?
The Private Storage chest has 240 slots. Consumable items stack up to 50 units per slot, so in practice you can store far more than 240 individual consumables. Equipment pieces each occupy one slot.
Where exactly is the storage chest located?
After completing Chapter 3, the chest is at the Greymane Camp in Howling Hill, positioned directly behind Carl the Provisions Keeper. Before Chapter 3 is complete, a temporary chest is available inside Kliff's tent at the Royal Trading Post in Hernand.
What is the difference between a Supply Chest and Private Storage?
Supply Chests automatically collect loot you missed during exploration or quests — you cannot manually put items in them. Private Storage (the chest behind Carl) is the manual storage system where you choose what to deposit and withdraw.
Can I access the storage chest from anywhere in the world?
No. You must physically travel to the chest at Howling Hill to deposit or withdraw items. There is no remote access mechanic currently in the game.
What happens to items I sold to vendors before the storage chest was added?
Items sold to vendors can be repurchased from that vendor's Repurchase tab. However, vendor inventory resets every 7 in-game days, so items will be permanently lost after that. If you sold items to Carl at the camp, check his Recover Item option to get them back.
